NaNoWriMo is just over the hill now. Why don’t we dig a little deeper into the minds and details of our characters before we embark on that adventure?
Character Profile and Interview
This one was a joint effort between me and the lovely Kristin Brown, whose blog BrownInkSpot should be up and running any day now! And, thanks to the wonderful James Betts, this PDF is now digitally fillable!
How To Use It
Step One: Fill out the first part as the author. The Character Profile is the bare bones of what makes up the character – hair colour, weight, height, family, job etc. These are the facts as they stand at any given point in your story.
Step Two: Fill out the second part as if you are conducting an interview with your character. Ask them the questions and let them answer. It’s up to you whether you want to give them a shot of truth serum first, so they tell you the real truth, or if you want to let them tell you their truth.
We’ve tried to be as comprehensive and thorough as you can be with one of these worksheets, so every field and question won’t apply to every character (although when interviewing your character, it can be fun to ask them questions they don’t understand, just to see the reaction). Pick and choose as you see fit.
As always, don’t stress over it and enjoy!
